Alarm Management - The Impact of the ISA-18.2 Standard Webinars
Alarm management has become a highly important topic, and the subject of a number of articles, technical symposia, and books. After 6 years of development, the new standard
“ANSI/ISA-18.2-2009 Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries”
is now published at
www.isa.org
.
The issuance of ISA-18.2 is a significant and important event for the chemical, petrochemical, refining, power generation, pipeline, mining and metals, pharmaceutical, and similar industries using modern control systems with alarm functionality. It sets forth the work processes for designing, implementing, operating, and maintaining a modern alarm system presented in a “life cycle” format. It will also have significant regulatory impact.
ISA-18.2 is quite different from the “usual” ISA standard. It is about work processes of people. Alarm management isn’t really about hardware or software; it’s about work processes that relate to the alarm system.
Bill Hollifield, PAS Principal Alarm Management Consultant and ISA SP-18 Committee Member, will host two 30-minute webinars to review the new ISA-18.2, specifically:
The ANSI/ISA-18.2 Alarm Management Standard
The Standard’s Purpose and Scope
Does ISA-18.2 Apply to You?
The Standard’s Regulatory Impact and Grandfathering
The Alarm Management Life Cycle
The 7 Steps of Effective Alarm Management vs. the ISA-18.2 Life Cycle
New Terms: Alarm Classification and Highly Managed Alarms
